Drag Boat Racing is one of the most exciting forms of motor sports found anywhere in the world! 7000 Horsepower nitro breathing dragons going over 250mph on the liquid quarter mile is enough to get anyone's adrenaline pumping!
R/C Drag Boat Racing offers all the thrills and spills of real drag boat racing without the danger or expense! These miniature counter parts come in two scales, the 1/10 scale drag boats are approximately 20 -24 inchs overall length and are mostly powered by electric motors. These race boats can reach speeds in excess of 70 mph from a standing start in only 132 feet! The larger 1/5 scale drag boats exceed 40 inches in length and and usually run gasoline powered two stroke weed trimmer or chain saw type engines, however nitro and electric are also used. Their scale quarter mile is 264 feet long and the engines use a centrifugal clutch usually connected to a V-Drive just like the real drag boats! Both scales use timing equipment with a drag Christmas tree and time slips that provide the competitors with reaction time (RT), elapsed time (ET) and miles per hour (MPH) of their scale quarter mile courses just like the full size drag boats!
R/C Drag Boat Racing is a relatively new hobby. Currently there are only a few clubs in the United States that run R/C Drag Boats, but it's growing all the time! There are more manufacturers than ever who are producing hulls and support equipment for Drag Boat racing. Please check the links section for more information about drag boat manufactures and equipment.
