Proposed 1/10 Scale Electric Drag Boat Rules
Below is a proposed rule set for 1/10 electric Drag Boat racing. These rules are subject to change and your input is encouraged. We have tried to keep classes to a minimum, but offer a class for all levels of skill and budget. If you have suggestions or comments, please email them to Dan@RCDragBoats.com

General Scale Class Rules
All boats will be 1/10 scale with detailed exposed mock engines that represent the engines used in the real drag boat counterpart. Canopy with windscreen painted or clear. If open cockpit there must be a scale driver from the shoulders up. All hulls must be based on real hulls used in Drag Boat Racing. The builder may elect to use their own graphics, name and/or sponsors. In order for the sensors to properly score the boats, all boats must be a minimum of 3.5 inches tall measured from the water line.

All classes must have a minimum of 4 boats to make a class. In the event that there are not enough boats in a specific class, the class with less then four entries will be combined with the next faster class to make a full field. A National record can only happen during qualifying or elimination's, records must be backed up within 1%.

Safety
A positive method of speed control must be used. On/Off micro switches or variable speed electronic or mechanical controls are allowed. It is required that all boats have a battery disconnect (kill) switch located on the transom. All boats must be prop driven.

Tracks & Timing

Tracks
Track will be 1/10 scale of 1/4 mile, 132 feet long with a 5 foot Mill area (subject to change). A minimum lane width of 15 feet with buoys spaced a minimum of 20 feet apart down the center of the track. Crossing the center line Buoy's will result in Immediate disqualification. Hitting timing sensors will reult in immediate disqualification. A minimum of 100 feet of shutdown area is required after the finish line. Spectators should be kept well away from this area as well as any other area that boat could leave the water. Drivers will stand behind the starting light with the boats going away from the driver.

Timing
A professional type timing system with a Christmas tree capable of detecting foul (red light) starts. Infrared sensor beams able to detect hulls and provide triggering to timing system for elapsed time, accurate to .001 of a second is required. Printed time slips, with full information of each run, which should includ reaction time (RT), elapsed time (ET) and miles per hour (MPH) provided to each competitor and race offical is encouraged, but not required. Additionally, 6 foot and 66 foot sensors may be used to give more feedback to the drivers, but are not required. Please see the links section for commercial timing systems.
